Pedro M Samuel

Managing Director

Pedro completed his Business Science degree with Honours at the University of Cape Town, majoring in Finance and Economics, in 2000. Upon completing his studies he joined Prescient Investment Management as a trainee portfolio manager in 2001. Pedro was eventually tasked with managing their Index Funds and Dividend Yield Portfolio. In 2004 he joined Metropolitan Asset Managers where he managed and gave structure to their Absolute Return Fund. While at Metropolitan he grew the Absolute Return Fund by winning external mandates and was selected for the top portfolio management award in 2005.

 

A move to Johannesburg in 2006 saw him join the JM Busha investment group as a portfolio manager and shareholder. In 2008, Prescient Investment Management established a presence in Johannesburg and approached Pedro to head up that office primarily in a sales role, given his portfolio management experience, while he remained a member of their Investment Committee. Given his success at gathering assets he was later appointed Director at Prescient. Pedro set up BalondolozI Investment Services in 2010 and currently holds the position of Managing Director and Portfolio Manager.

Fannuel Tigere

Chief Investment Officer

Fannuel holds a Bachelor of Business Science (BBusSci) from the University of Cape Town where he majored in Actuarial Science. He is also a CFA charterholder and holds thirteen exemptions from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the United Kingdom.

 

Fannuel’s involvement with investments started whilst he was a final year student at the University of Cape Town in 2007. He conducted his honours research, in measuring developed market inflation, in conjunction with Prescient Investment Management. Upon completion of his Bachelor of Business Science degree, he eventually joined Prescient Investment Management as a fixed income analyst.

 

As an analyst, he regularly provided input to the portfolio construction process through general fixed interest and credit research. Over the three years at Prescient, Fannuel had vast exposure to the process involved in managing bond and cash portfolios. In January 2011, Fannuel joined Balondolozi investments as a Fixed Interest Manager. In 2014 Fannuel assumed the responsibility of leading the investment team as Chief Investment Officer. He is also directly responsible for managing Fixed Interest Funds.

Thabo Ntseare

Chief Financial Officer

completed his under and postgraduate studies at the University of Cape Town from 1997 to 2000. He started his career with Ernst & Young in 2001 as a trainee accountant and after completing his articles and qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, he joined Rand Merchant Bank in 2004. Thabo worked in the Structured Finance division initially as a credit analyst. The position involved assessing the eligibility of credit applications and presenting them to a committee. Initially Thabo assessed big blue chip corporates before moving to Leveraged Buyouts as a specialist credit analyst.  He then worked as a Transactor/Dealmaker concentrating on property transactions. Some of the larger transactions Thabo was involved in include the Hemingways Shopping Centre in East London valued at R1bn and the Georgiou Group purchase of a property portfolio valued at R645m.

 

Thabo is currently an entrepreneur in the transport and mining sectors and also a director at Royal Fields Finance, a SMME finance specialist where he also sits on the credit committee.

Fikile Ndlovu

Chief Operations Officer

Fikile graduated from Boston Business School and City Campus in 2013. She joined Balondolozi Investment Service in March 2014 as part of the administration team. She was soon promoted to head of the fund administration team.

 

Her duties included the daily morning process, creating and sending daily reports to clients, capture Bond and Equity trades and Cash transactions, liaising with clients and opening accounts. She was also responsible for post-trade process of Equities and Bonds, reconciling custodian banks holdings, compiling FICA documents, month end reconciliations, general administration related to funds, preparing annual and quarterly reports and compliance.  She currently holds the position of Chief Operations Officer.

Yolande Mokhantso

Head of Marketing

Yolande’s career began at Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) in August 1996. With a background in desktop publishing (DTP), her primary responsibility was managing the Federations’ publications. She also served as a trustee on the Cosatu provident fund.

 

After ten years at Cosatu she joined Umbono Capital in 2006 as Business Developer responsible for union clients. A year later she resigned from Umbono and joined JM BUSHA Investment Group as Corporate Affairs Manager, a position she held for nine years. Yolande joined Balondolozi in March 2016 as Head of Marketing.

Sandelee Van Wyk

Investment Analyst- Equities

Sandelee holds a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) in Economics and Risk Management, focussing specifically on financial risk management with regards to investment management, bank risk management and hedging of risks with the use of derivative instruments. Sandelee’s involvement with investments started during her years as a student, where technical and fundamental analysis was utilised to build a model portfolio.

 

In 2014, Sandelee completed her Honours Bachelor of Commerce (Hons. B.Com) in Risk Management, focussing on the application and decision making with regards to investment management, bank risk management and derivative instruments. She conducted her honours research on the impact of financial markets on economic growth.

 

In 2015, Sandelee joined Balondolozi Investment Services as a Trainee Money Market Portfolio Manager, where she manages three Cash Funds under the supervision of the CIO. Sandelee joined the equity investment team in 2017. Currently, she is furthering her education in Investment Analysis and Investment Management.

Tatum Naidoo

Investment Analyst- Equities

Tatum holds a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) in Investment Management, focussing specifically on financial risk management with regards to investment management, and hedging of risks with the use of derivative instruments. Tatum’s involvement with investments started during her years as a student, where technical and fundamental analysis was utilised to build a model portfolio. She was employed at INET BFA for 2 years prior to her role at Balondolozi, at which she worked with asset managers assisting them in using the data platform to access data to make investment decisions for their portfolio’s.

 

In 2015, Tatum completed her CFA level 1 with the CFA institute, focussing on the application and decision making with regards to investment management. In 2015, Tatum joined Balondolozi Investment Services as a Trainee Equity Portfolio Manager, where she manages equities under the supervision of the CIO. Currently, she is furthering her education in the CFA course.

Bongisipho Mahlathi

Investment Analyst- Fixed Income

Bongisipho holds a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) with Honours in Financial Markets, completed at the University of Fort Hare. She has passed the Registered Person Exams (Equity, Regulations and Intro to Financial Markets). She is currently studying towards the CFA program.  Bongisipho started her working career at the Department of Trade and Industry as a Research Intern. She has completed her three year programme as a trainee portfolio manager with Balondolozi. She specialises in bonds research and implementation aspects of the research output, transactions (buying and selling of bonds).

Christopher

Pratt

Investment Analyst- Fixed Income

Christopher completed his Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) in Investment Management (Cum Laude) from the University of Pretoria (UP) in 2013 as well as a B.Com Hons Investment Management Degree (UP) in 2014 which focussed on Portfolio Management, Asset Valuation, Advanced Corporate Finance together with a Research Report exploring the association between gender and the utilisation of information from the media to make financial/investment decisions for retirement.

 

In 2015 Christopher joined Balondolozi as a Trainee Portfolio Manager focusing on Fixed Income specialising in bonds research and implementation aspects of the research output and currently co-manages the bond portfolios under supervision of the CIO.  While working at Balondolozi Christopher undertook to write all three levels of the CFA Institute examinations passing Level 3 in June 2017.

Magdalene Baloyi

Investment Analyst- Money Market

Magdalene holds a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) in Economics and Econometrics from the University of Johannesburg. She was employed at Gijima in 2015 as an Administration intern.

 

In 2016, Magdalene joined Balondolozi Investment Services as a Fund Administrator, where she did the administration duties related to the fund we administer. She joined the money market investment team in 2017 where she manages three Cash Funds under the supervision of the CIO, runs cash sweeping and transaction (buying and Selling) of money market instruments.

Itumeleng Mojaki

Investment Analyst- Money Market

Itumeleng holds an undergraduate degree Bachelor of Commerce in Economics and International Trade, and a postgraduate degree Honours Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Risk Management, from North West University.

 

Upon completion of his undergraduate, as of 2013 after graduation Itumeleng worked as a financial planner at Sanlam from November 2013 till January 2015. In February 2015 he went back to University (North West University) to complete his post graduate degree Honours Bachelor of Commerce in Risk Management. Itumeleng conducted his Honours research, in “How the volatility of real interest rates and real exchange rates affect share returns from various sectors”.

 

Whilst completing his Honours degree, from August 2015. Itumeleng joined Balondolozi Investment Services as trainee Money Market portfolio manager, whereby he conducts economic research , run quantitative models on money pricing/spreads, fund reporting, cash sweeping and transaction (buying and Selling) of money market instruments and related derivatives.  In 2016 he graduated from North West University, received his post graduate degree with a distinction for his Honours research (mini-dissertation), the Honours project was eventually printed by the University as one of their annual articles. Currently Itumeleng is furthering his education in the CFA course.

Fundiswa Maseti

Administration Support

Fundiswa Maseti is responsible for the reception area. She assists back office with general administration and ad-hoc tasks on a daily basis.
